Broccoli Messages

Broccoli is part of the cabbage family along with Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and Bok choy.  It originated in Italy and is part of a Mediterranean diet.

  1. Broccoli contains more cancer-fighting phytonutrients when eaten raw than cooked.
  2. Broccoli is an excellent source of vitamin C, fiber and beta-carotene.
  3. Broccoli contains the anti-inflammatory flavonoid kaempferol, which may aid in preventing cancer, heart disease and adult-onset diabetes.
  4. Broccoli is extremely versatile and can be eaten raw, steamed or roasted.
  5. One cup of broccoli provides just 31 calories.
