Food News: Bottomless Bowl

Did your mother ever say, “your eyes are bigger than your stomach!”? If so, she was probably right. Researchers at the Universisty of Illinois fed 54 adults soup. Half of these adults had “bottomless bowls” meaning their bowls filled at an imperceptible rate while they were eating. The end result? Those with the bottomless bowl ate 73% more soup and did not report being any more full. This emphasizes the importance of visual cues and using smaller serving containers if you are trying to watch calories. Obes. Res., January 1, 2005; 13(1): 2 - 2.
