Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups lukewarm water (100 degrees F)
  • 1 envelope of yeast
  • 2 cups pizza flour
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2.5 cups pizza flour
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 heirloom tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup sliced red onion
  • 2 sprigs basil
  • 2 cups grated mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Make the pizza dough: Mix the water, yeast, flour, sugar, and salt together. Then add the remaining amount of flour. Mix until it forms a stretchy dough. You can add more flour or water as needed to get the right consistency. The dough should be a bit sticky. Mix by hand or use a mixing machine with a paddle.
  2. Form the dough into a ball and place in a bowl. Cover it. Allow the dough to rise at room temperature for about an hour.
  3. Roll out the dough and place on a sheet pan. Bake the dough for 10 minutes at 450 degrees.
  4. Top the dough with the tomato sauce, seasonings, sliced tomatoes, basil leaves, onions and grated cheese. Bake for 10-20 minutes at 450 degrees until the cheese is browned.
  5. Cut in 12 pieces and serve. 1 piece per person. We like to add a protein and a salad to round out a meal.
